As this Ad Club year comes to a close, I reflect back on how quickly the time flies, how many good things we have accomplished and the value of a solid team.
It seems like just yesterday that I became Club President and formed a brand new board and planned our retreat. As we now prepare to bid farewell to John Evans, Doug Levere, Scott Fierle and Rob Wynne from this year’s board, we thank them for their expertise and service over the past two years. I know that Tricia Barrett and the Nominating Committee are actively looking for others to fill these positions. Perhaps you can consider serving.
Tricia Barrett, Ed Kilgore, Sarah Genau, Theresa Kazmierczak, Rob Kubiak, Steve Molenda and Jim Wannemacher remain on the board for another year. I know they will continue to serve you well and to accomplish our club’s business in a timely and efficient manner.
Volunteers are a fundamental cornerstone of America, and your Ad Club could not survive and do all the things we do without our many volunteers. There are many opportunities for you, too, to become involved. Please see the job descriptions posted on our website: advertisingclubofbuffalo.com, then click on home and click on job descriptions.
More ADDY congratulations are in order! Crowley Webb and Associates has won a silver National ADDY for their 4 Pregnant Ladies invitation, and The Martin Group has won a silver National ADDY for Face Time Cosmetics packaging campaign. These awards will be presented in June in Atlanta at the National Conference.
Through our partnership with PRSA, we held a very successful first Career Launch Day. We look forward to continuing this partnership and holding another similar event next year.
Our student programs are critical to the future success of our industry here in Western New York. Please consider volunteering to work on next year’s Career Day committee or getting involved as a professional mentor for our Portfolio Review.
Sarah Genau has agreed to chair our Don Nichols Scholarship Committee for next year. She will be looking for a few professionals to help judge the student entries. More information will be published as the time nears for this event.
Programming is a vital part of our club’s activities and the continuing education of our members. We were fortunate to have three excellent programs this year:
Are You Advertising Online? by Randy Rains of AOL
Corporate Branding by Colin Drummond of Crispin Porter & Bogusky
How a Global Brand Uses Pop Culture to Build the Brand by Steve Pacheco of FedEx
Plans for future programs include Electronic Billboards by Lamar and a panel discussion by some top local marketers. If you have an idea or a contact for a potential program, please send it to us at office@advertisingclubofbuffalo.com. We will be happy to work the lead.
Our student and individual memberships continue to grow, and our corporate memberships have increased over the past few years to 26, a new club high.
